The ‘300’ Workout For Hockey

Remember the 300 movie?  About the 300 Spartans who held off an army of Persian invaders to protect Greece.  Now, they only held them off, they were eventually defeated by the much larger Persian forces, much to the chagrin of the Greeks.

Anyway, there is a great book by Steven Pressfield called The Warrior Ethos if you are truly interested in what makes a Spartan.  It is a quick and good read.

Despite the bravery and valour displayed by the Spartans, what was the buzz about the movie?

You guessed, the buff bodies.  Guys liked it because there was lots of killing and a guy gets kicked into a bottomless pit or off a cliff or something if memory serves and us gals like it because…well, the buff bodies.  This is what we call a ‘win:win’ my friends.

So today I have a 300 workout for hockey players – there is a modification in there for goalies.

And it goes a little something like this…

  • Heavy Split Squat x 10 each
  • Low Skate Hops x 20
  • ½ Kneeling BG Press x 10 each leg up
  • ½ Kneeling BG Fly x 10 each leg up
  • Low Skate Striders or Wide Outs For Goalies x 20
  • BG ½ Kneeling Row x 10 each foot forward
  • BG Supine Pulldown x 10
  • BG Hip Block x 10 each
  • Repeat circuit 2 times for your 300 reps

This is a stamina circuit that will help build your muscular endurance.  You can use it as a quick workout that you can do almost anywhere or add it to the end of your regular routine as a ‘finisher’.

Enjoy!
