The Best Off-Ice Hockey Training Program

There isn’t really a ‘best’ off-ice hockey training program.  If there were, then everyone would do it and every hockey player would be awesome and hardly ever get injured.  Wouldn’t that be great.

The best program is the one that you can actually get done.  Is it better to train for 90-minutes per day than 20-minutes per day?  In general, assuming you are working on the right things, the answer is ‘Yes’.  BUT if you do not have 90-minutes per day to train, are you better to do 20-quality minutes?  Absolutely!  In fact, I would estimate that you would get 70% of the results from a good 20-minutes that you get from a good 90-minutes.

Finding the best program for YOU!

Okay, I am posting this because you are asking and I am writing the same email reply over and over again, so I figured I would just post it here and then it will be much easier to cut and paste a link.

The question is – What’s the difference between ____________ off-ice program and ________________ program?  (insert the name of any off-ice program).

So let me break it down for you here…

I do not recommend any of my hockey training programs for players under 14.  I will start a player the summer they are 13 if they are heading into high school in the fall.

Rapid Response Goalie Training

  • I created this program for adult goalies who are still very competitive and want to be the go-to goalie in their league, but have ‘real life’ responsibilities as well such as work, family, etc.
  • I created this program to be completed at home with basic equipment – dumbbells, resistance bands, stability ball – but you can also do it at the gym.
  • The workouts are only 20-40 minutes in duration and include mobility, stability, strength, speed and stamina training.
  • It is more circuit-style training
  • I know quite a few college goalies who use this program as their in-season program as well.
