The 3 Goalie Training Exercises That Will Boost Your SV%

Hey – Maria here – I just updated this post for you today.  I originally published it back in 2015 and a few things have changed since then, so I have updated it for you – you’re welcome 😉  Here you go…

Hey!  How’s your off-season goalie training going so far?  I know for most of you it has just started.

And I know for a fact some of you just said “good” to yourself even though you have either:

A) Not started at all or….

B) You are pretty much going to the gym a couple times per week and doing what you feel like on that day – then you hit that embarrassing groin machine that you sit on and viola you just did a goalie-specific workout.

You should now either be smiling or blushing, because you know it is true.
It’s okay – lots of other goalies are doing it too 🙂

I Won’t Do It…

exercises for hockey goaliesI’m not going to scold you if you haven’t even started yet.  In fact, if you haven’t taken a nice two week break from hockey and training, then I want you to do THAT first and then come back to this article.

But if your season has been done for a few weeks (or a month), then you better start TODAY (okay tomorrow at the latest), because before you know it, it will be may, then June and then you will be back on the ice with your team, scrambling to get ready for training camp wondering – ‘where did the time go and why didn’t I start this two months ago?’  And at that time it will be too late for you to get the goalie training you need to transform your performance on the ic.

I know that you already know that.  But time gets away on us sometimes.

Today, I am giving you the benefit of the doubt that you actually thought doing some leg press, knee extensions, hamstring curls – yes EVEN the embarrassing groin machine was going to help you when you hit the ice.

But, Whatever You Do Include These 3 Exercises…

Even if you still don’t follow an actual goalie specific training program (HINT: you won’t find leg press, knee extensions, hamstring curls or that groin machine in one), at LEAST add these five to your current workout.
