REAL goalies don’t do these exercises

When I was presenting at the Network Goaltending symposium to the top goalie coaches in the world, I mentioned in passing that goalies should not be doing Knee Extensions, Hamstring Curls or Leg Press for their strength training and a I saw a few eyebrows lift.

I thought maybe I had said something weird – – as I do sometimes 🙂

But then after my talk, I was asked by four different goalie coaches to explain why their goalies should not be doing these exercises.

This is why I love to talk with goalie coaches because they are always looking for ways to help their goalies.  A lot of them try to help their goalies with off-ice training suggestions, which typically revolve around what they did when they used to play 10 or more years ago… and a lot of that training was machine based.

Not in 2017 though.

That type of training will not give you max speed on the ice, it won’t let you stay flexible as you get stronger and it will even increase your risk of injury, so let me show you what you can do instead…

Instead of KNEE EXTENSIONS do SPLIT SQUATS – https://youtu.be/UszB2rA_Ee8

Instead of MACHINE HAMSTRING CURLS do SINGLE LEG STIFF LEGGED DEADLIFT – https://youtu.be/RnbfsA0d6gI

Instead of LEG PRESS do SINGLE LEG SQUAT TO TAP – https://youtu.be/yNfvGAjRV6s

Get way more transfer from the gym to the ice with these modifications, remember you don’t go to the gym to lift more weight, you go to the gym to lift more trophies.

Catch you later.
