What I wanted to tell you today about is, trying to be all things to all people. Some of you have been following me for a long time and might remember even when I used to sell training programs for skaters, for forwards and defensemen. I still train them in the gym, but I came to a point where I had to stop training them online and selling programs to them because I couldn’t do both awesome.
My goal is to be awesome at training goal tenders. This is what I’m committed to, I’m the most passionate about, it’s my life’s work. So I had to let that go.
If you can’t see the video above – probably too much Crossfit, just click HERE >>

I see the same thing happen to a lot of you guys, especially in your off season training. You want to be a better goalie, but your friends do Crossfit or something else and you kind of want to do that too. You also want to look good for the beach and for your Instagram pictures without your shirt on. So then you’re going to do maybe some P90X on the side so that you can cover that.
You’re trying to cover all these angles and really, what you end up doing, is taking a shotgun approach. And again, being pretty good at several different things, rather than taking a laser focus on what’s most important to you and what the number one thing you’re trying to accomplish is.
I make this mistake too but a priority is one. There’s only one. I know some of you around here just play hockey for fun. You can do some of these exercises that actually help you feel better for hockey, but then you like to do these kind of workouts cause you want to have a big chest, or six pack abs or whatever. That’s totally cool! But if you are one of the goalies that is really, really passionate about being the best goalie you can be, that is your priority.
Some of you are in a position where you’re going to step up to junior hockey, college hockey, even some of you to professional hockey. Then, it needs to be all about that. I don’t mean if you’re 12 years old, because if you are 12 years old, man, do it all. Have a blast. If you’re 16, 17, 18, 19, then it comes a time where it’s like, I gotta go for this. I gotta make hay while the sun shines.
It would be great if we could do it all, but we can’t. When we try to do that, it actually takes away from our focus. Again, using the example from the beginning. Personally I enjoy working with skaters. I like them, too. Personally I lost quite a bit of income because I had a lot of clients that followed me that were skaters. But I do feel that I’ve improved what I can do with you guys like setting up this goalie training lab and having time available to come on and chat with you in the middle of the day.
So, think about your priorities. Ask yourself, “what is the number one thing I’m trying to accomplish?”. If the answer is I’m trying to get to my next level of goal tending, I want to be the best goalie that I can possibly be. Then, you have to take the laser focus. If you’re like, I like hockey, I like this, and I play soccer, I like that. Then, have a blast! Mix it up!
I just thought I’d pop on, give you that little chit chat cause I see it happening a lot. That’s all I have for it. I’ll catch you guys later.
Cheers,
M
