Million dollar blog post for hockey players.

If I had a dollar for every athlete or client who said, “I need to be faster”, “I need to lose 10lbs” or “I need to get in top shape this summer”, I would have thousands of dollars.  Some athletes I train (and those who I keep around year after year) are the ones who take the steps to make those things happen.  Becoming a better hockey player is actually pretty straight forward.  Luckily there is not special hockey training gizmo that will give someone an advantage over you, basically you need to train consistently, with proper technique and sufficient intensity.  Mix in recovery periods and you are set to go.  If becoming a better hockey player is your true priority, you will do it – no problem.

You would be surprised at the number of emails I get or conversations I have with people who say things like, “oh yeah, I want to play at ‘X’ level more than anything, but I cannot workout on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays because I have to go golfing, then I am going to Toronto for my friends birthday, then I have to help my buddy move, then I don’t really have the right shoes to wear and no gym membership, etc.  You get the idea.

Now, I fully understand that people have commitments with school and kids and work – I get it!  But if I told you that I would pay you $1,000,000 cash if you trained consistently for 1-1.5 hours per day four days per week over the course of 8-weeks would you do it?  Would that make it a priority?  You bet it would – there are not many of you who would not find a way to make it happen because that money would make it a priority for you.  It is okay if you cannot do the training to achieve your goals, just as long as you are not fooling yourself that you ‘can’t’ do it.  Acknowledge that you have other priorities right now that are more important – that is okay, that is life.

Have a great day gang.

Cheers,
Maria
