Sorry I had to be the one to break it to you, but… …your anatomy may be the reason you cannot do the splits, despite your ‘best efforts’ to get there. Whether or not you can get all the way down, there are drills that can help you get deeper and give you more control in those lengthened positions, making your recovery quicker, and getting you compact and ready for that second (or third) effort save.
If you are looking to deepen your splits as an ice hockey goaltender you need to improve:
1) Tissue Quality
2) Hip Mobility In All Planes
3) Strength At Length
4) Eccentric Control
