In this week’s Goalie Training Pro live Q&A session, Maria covered a range of topics relevant to hockey goalies. Here are the key highlights:
Cold Season is Here: Maria acknowledged that many goalies, including those she works with in BC and the US, have been battling a nasty cold going around. She empathized with those suffering and recommended rest and Neocitron to help recover.
Upcoming Free 5-Day Clinic: Next Thursday, Maria will be opening enrollment for a free 5-day online Butterfly Challenge Pro clinic. This will feature the brand new Butterfly Challenge 4.0 and is open to a limited number of participants. Those interested should keep an eye on her Instagram for details.
Is Sense Arena Still Worth It? Maria addressed this common question, explaining that while the monthly subscription may seem high compared to a one-time video game purchase, the value comes from Sense Arena being an immersive training tool. She shared her personal experience of seeing improved performance on the ice when using Sense Arena consistently. Maria also highlighted the regular updates and coaching plans that keep the platform fresh and engaging.
Contribution to New Hockey Book: Maria was excited to share that she contributed a chapter on core training to a new book published by Human Kinetics and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. The book features contributions from many respected sports science and strength & conditioning experts in hockey.
Advice for a 9-Year-Old Goalie Struggling to Stand Up: For a young goalie new to the position, Maria suggested the issue may be more equipment-related than a strength problem. She recommended working with the volunteer coach to practice proper techniques for getting up from different positions, as well as spending time on the ice just getting comfortable on the skates.
Upcoming Video Content: Maria mentioned a recent video on how to get the best gear fit without being able to test it on the ice. Next week, she’ll be releasing a Christmas gift guide for goalies.
