Today I have two things I want to cover. The first is your EOTW which is a hockey speed drill that you can do on the ice (we actually do it off the ice as well). I see this as being most applicable to skaters, but I certainly don’t think it would hurt goalies at all. It is super simple and you can do it in less than 2-minutes each time you step on the ice.
EOTW: Hockey Speed Drill – Puck Drop Acceleration

How Much How Many?
Remember this is a speed drill, so we do not want fatigue to become a factor. Start with one set of six repetitions either before or after practice. Grab a teammate and take turns dropping the puck for one another, this will build in a good rest interval so you are getting great quality on each start.
Technical Pointers…
Here are a few things to keep in mind as you complete the drill:
- Stay in your ready position with your hips, knees and ankles flexed, so you are ready to explode as soon as the puck leaves your partner’s hand. You should not have to ‘drop and go’.
- Make your first step as powerful as you can, put energy into the ice to overcome inertia and get your body moving.
- Practice starting from different positions – forward facing (leading with your left foot, then your right foot), right facing, left facing, etc.
- You can also add in a technical skill, like pick up the puck and release a quick shot.
Go with the Flow…
Finally, I want to tell you about a program that two of the trainers (one is a pilates specialist) from my Mastermind Group have put together called something like ‘BodyweightFlow’.
Now I get requests to promote products every 3 days, but very few of them resonate with what you are trying to achieve. I mean, I am sure some of you would love to fit back into your ‘skinny jeans’, but that is not what we are here for right?
Anyway, I liked this one from Tyler and Sylvia because it deals with mobility. It is kind of a hybrid of mobility training with Pilates cuing. Anyway, I thought some of you might be interested. I have asked them to let me share a sample with you, so if that comes through I will post it here as well.
So if you are looking for some new ways to work on your mobility, you might want to check out BodyweightFlow, but be prepared for pictures of Tyler with his shirt off and lots of stories about how it will help you banish ugly belly fat, etc. It is all in there, but when you get down to it, it is basically some nice, quick follow along mobility flows. I also want to clearly remind you that I will receive a commission if you buy it using this link. That is not why I am telling you about it – not worth $15 to risk selling you garbage – I actually think some of you will like it.
That’s it – Cheers!
Maria
