Before you watch the video – I want you to understand one thing.
I am NOT saying that you want to pop straight up from your 1/2 butterfly or when you are racing for the puck. I know it is lateral movement that we focus on in hockey – we work on that a lot, BUT…this is such a nice pure power drill that I want you to try it.
You also don’t have to worry about sticking the landing, all you need to focus on is applying as much power as you can using your glutes, quads and hamstrings, while keeping a stable torso.
Here’s what I want you to do…
Power is the emphasis, so it is a low volume exercise – go with 4-6 on each leg.
Can you add weight?
Yes, once you are explosive right from the bottom (in other words, no “lag” in the first 6″ of push), then you can add weight. You can add as much as 20lbs total (that does not mean go straight to 20lbs – build up – it must stay explosive).
Enjoy!
Cheers,
M
